Does anyone give their baby a little water every now and then. All the doc say not to, but me family, parents and grands say they need it. I noticed that sometimes my LO is thirsty and not hungry for mommy milk.

I asked my son's dr. the same thing when he was only a few weeks old, she said to me that it was actually fine and the reason most dr. don't recommend it is because they don't want parents to give the child more water than milk, depriving him/her of necessary nutrients. She told me that was an issue in the past. Sooo we got him baby water and apple juice (which also helped when he was alittle constipated). Its actually good to get them used to drinking water, which is why family tends to recommend it. Give him alittle and see how he likes it, but be patient as it takes them awhile to get used to the fact that water is way thinner than milk.

Great. He LOVES water. I can't drink from my water bottle without him begging for it. I always carry a little bottle of water for him. I use filtered from my PUR filter. Hope this is okay. Should be because our parents and grands didn't use special water for us and we are still alive. haha.

My daughter doctor told us that she doesn't need water so she gets breastmilk and unsweeten 100% juice.

My doctor said exactly what LaShonda's said. I believe as long as the baby is getting more milk than water it is okay. This is the time to introduce them to water and as he/she grows they will like water as well.

My son's doc said not to either, but we did every now and then anyway. I didn't nurse but the doc still there was enough water in his formula. We gave it to him for hiccups and I even gave it to him when i started weening him from night time feedings.

If you breast feed then the baby doesn't need water because their is plenty of liquid in your milks. The reason the older generation say that the babies need water is because of the formula milk. If a baby gets any formula then they need water. My mother-in-law and mother asked me if my baby needed water too.

It is ok to give the baby after 4 months, 5 months if you really are not sure. Just not too much.

I say yes I used to buy the water that is made for babies with the pink lable on it and my son would drink maybe 2 to 8 ounces of that water bottle in a day . That was when he was about 4 months old I started him on it. Now he is 4 years old and he will drink over anything else as long as its bottled water and not tap :) But we buy a case of waterbottles about 3 a month becasue he drinks so much water. I am glad that I started him on it while he was still little but that beats him wating soda nd juice all the time. Sure he had an occasional choke on water but he got it out and moved on I say yes water for baby.

my LO just turned 4 months and she is really taken with water. I only put a pinch of sugar in it, with 3 oz of water and she goes for it.

I didn't know if I should give my baby water, but my family was saying he needed it...so I gave him about two ounces in between meals...also my doctor told me to give him water too. She's Fillipino, so I think it has to do with the doctor,,,but I think it's okay it cleanses their system.
