DO U THINK IT IS RIGHT TO NOT LET YOUR KID BE AROUND A FATHER THAT DOESNT WANT HIM

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE THINK. MY EX DONT WANT KIDS PERIOD AND MY SON LONGS FOR A FATHER. HE PROMISES TO SEND HIM MONEY AND NEVER DOES.NOW MY SON WHO IS ALMOST 11 DOESNT WANT TO BE BOTHERED WITH HIM. QUESTION IS : SHOULD I MAKE HIM.

Holli, I really don't think you should make your son see his dad. He may resent you for that. Your ex missed out on being there for your son and now that your son is old enough to feel how he is feeling, making him could cause problems for you. Let him decide.

I agree with Trisha. I do not think you should force him, maybe in the future both of them will come around.

If your Son has pretty much made up his mind on this, best to leave well enough alone!! True, maybe in the future, when your son is older, perhaps it'll take til he's a Man, to really decide if he wants to let him be apart of his life at that point, or realize that he's been just fine with the love of his MOTHER!!

I don't think you should force him either, but I do think you should encourage him knowing his father. Even though his father was irresponsible, you can help your son understand his father's shortcomings. He is only a man, and men fall short. It is a 2-way street however, and if your son's father doesn't want anything to do with him, then there may not be much you can do to help them rebuild a relationship. I only suggest this because I know a few people that wish they could have done more to develop their relationships with their parents when they were young.

Thanks for the comment. It is past the point of repair. I understand what you are saying. He knows he can see him when ever he wants. But he doesnt want to see his son.

Hey sis, good to hear from you. I will take to heart what you said. The role models thing will take some getting used too. I will try it.

~~It really hurts a child with an absent parent, but hopefully there are other strong adult role models to fill the void~~ for the dad..HIS LOSS. Praying for healing and wholeness for your child, I've been there and it took so much from my life, hurt, regret, and on and on. Let's pray for our children. Teach your kids forgiveness, and how to let go and let God handle them deadbeats..who are far from dead. God bless everyone on this site who holds it down day to day for the kids!!
