Kinda Hoping Monique Doesn't Win

I was glad to hear that there is Oscar buzz for ol girl Monique for her portrayal and the mother in the Precious novel movie.

And then I thought about her role in the movie - an abusive mom.
And if you read the book like I did, you know this mom is that book is disturbing to say the least- she's stupid, ignorant, in denial, and physically and sexually abused her kid.

Now black women and men have been up for the very good roles with regards to the Oscar.

But those who have won... well there was the mammy. The rogue cop. The black woman who slept with her husband's white executioner. And now we may have to add a ignorant and abusive black women to the list.

Now I wasn't up in arms when Halle won for that stupid role in Monster's Ball, but even I can't help but see the pattern here.

I'm glad Monique got some recognition. I hope she doesn't win.

I certainly feel you here. It's amazing who we as black people earn our "rewards, awards". Humph, is all I gotsta say.
