Black Moms Club

Welcome Black Moms, African American Parents, Mothers of Color, Single Moms,Dads

How many of our moms are in school? What are you studying? How much longer do you have to go?

Would you be interested in a group on BMC for Moms in School?

Let me know. I would love to start a group for moms in school to support each other, answer questions, discuss our future plans, and to network and exchange tips on parenting and balancing education.

Oh yeah, I am a full time student. I study Sociology and Women's Studies, I have 2 more years.

I'm in school right now. Vocational school. I am taking Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Manufacturing. Not a long program, about 20 weeks. I have administrative skills (typing, computer, business correspondence) but I wasn't having any luck in finding a job in that area. Job competition is fierce! So I decided to up my skills on something different and hopefully that works out.

Ultimately I wanna a Bachelors degree. I been working on that for almost 20 years! But that's what I want and that's what I'm ultimately gonna get. I hope to work in the CNC/Manufacturing field and pay my own way through school. I wanna be a teacher - yeah that sounds noble but I want a job where I can get a lotta time off - and teaching is it. What other job do you know that lets you have off snow days, 1 week summer break, 2 weeks christmas break, 2 months summer vocation, and including a few extra days in one year? And that's not including vacation and sick days! And even if school is all year round like I heard they are moving towards, you will be getting like 2 weeks off for every 4 months you work. That's is friggin great!

Have no idea what kinda of teacher I'll be. Start out mediocre and hopefully rise from there. I said 'hopefully.'

Anyway, I'll get in where I fit in. I'm neutral on a 'BMC Moms In School' - but I'll check it out and find something I can post on, then I'll post. If not.. oh well....

I am a single mom of a 2 year old boy and a full time legal assistant who attends school full time at night. I am majoring in International Business. I want to be become a pharmaceutical sales representative. I would love a supportive group for moms. I need the support because God knows it gets hard.

A group sounds like a great idea! Let me know when you create it, so that I can share it with all the BMC Members! - LaShanda

I'm a full time student and worked full time until this school year. I decided I've worked too long and too hard w/nothing to show for it and now work part time. I've put school at the forefront. Yes, I'm broke, yes, I struggle but I swear I believe this time is truly an investment in my family's future. Graduate 2011 w/BA but unsure if I will go the Master's to Ph.D. route or if I'll go Master's concurrent w/Law School...(Major: Psychology, Minor: Anthropology).

I think this Moms in School is an awesome idea for BMC. Just joined and loving it here!

I know what you mean. When I did my radiology program I was broke like that also because the program was full time days so I worked part time evening and weekends and trying to survive financially and get the coursework done was crazy. I am still amazed that I made it through. Because your major is pychology you will have to get a masters to make any real money. I've hard a BA in Psychology won't take you very far at all.

Congratulations on your decision to go back to school FULL TIME Sharon. If you have any questions about grad school or going through the process of getting prepared to go to the next level academically, let me know. I'd be glad to assist you.

I am a mother to one girl and I'm currently attending Strayer University online, I't worth it in the long run but when you have a kid I think it pushes you that much harder. I love taking interest into something that will help me in the long run.

I am in school for Medical Lab Technican I have one more class next quarter and my program starts in the fall and it's for 18 months. I have 2 children and I am in school full time. It would be nice to talk to other people who knows what its like to balance a family and school. Some people really don't think that it is hard to tackle family and school but it is. Your time is split so many ways to do so many things. I think that it would be a great idea it will help some people to vent about their issues.

I have done it when I went to school to be a radiology technologist. It's very, very difficult. I'm not sure what your schooling will earn you but I would recommend you set your sites higher than medical lab tech because I don't think they make very much money. I would look into nursing, radiology, or even respiratory programs so that you know you are making at least $17-25 dollars an hour when you graduate. I think lab techs only make $10 an hour.
