Welcome Black Moms, African American Parents, Mothers of Color, Single Moms,Dads

Happy New Year BMC,

I wanted to wait a few days before asking this question, because I am SURE you have been asked it 1000 times already. LOL. So here goes, what do you want to happen for you in 2009? In '08 there was some good times and some real bad times but you know what I've got to thank GOD that I was able to see my son reach two, me and my hubby are still going strong, and that I was blessed enough to be a work at home momma. Family drama is always there, but who would we be without or family?

Now I know this sounds cliche, but I seriously need to lose a few pounds this year. I've been sitting on this computer for EVER and the pounds are just creeping on! EEK. Are any other BMC Mommas looking to do a Lose Weight Challenge? If you start one, or even start a group, let me know because I am in!! If there is already a group on BMC let me know and I will feature it! Now I know I haven't been on the BMC as much as I should, but don't let that stop you.

Share your new year's resolutions now and keep sharing. After all, aren't we here to connect with other mocha moms : P

Keep Smiling,
LaShanda

Hi Lashanda,

I am lifestyle consultant with Soul Purpose and I am doing a weight loss campaign in Feb 2009. I am looking for people who are ready to live a better life to do the challenge with me. I woke up this morning feeling just like you. I use to be able to at least suck it in keep it pushing. But not anymore and I refuse to let myself continue living like this another day!!

I have attached my flyer to this email or you can visit my site at www.4mybodyandsoul.com

My three goals are:

1. Builder a Tighter Relationship with GOD
2. Personal Development - Cont. To Grow (Work On Me)
3. Empower Women to Take Care Better Care of Themselves and achieve their goals

And as always continue to be A Supportive Wife and The Best Mommy In The Whole Wide World.

I would LOVE to be involved. I, too, am at the point where holding it in does not do the trick any more. My family and I are a part of the 50 Million Pound Challenge (www.50millionpounds.com), but I am the only one that seems to be interested : )

I can start a group, or join one that is already formed. Let me know.

LET'S GET FIT!!!
(I love that little guy : ))

Hey LaShanda,

Happy New Years to you and your family! I am ready for 2009! I want so much and this Sunday at Church Pastor spoke about getting everything that you want and EVERYTHING that God has ordained for you. The first step to obtaining all of your desires I believe is to put them in writing and confess and believe that they are about to come to fruition. So here it goes.....I will get a new job this year! I am gainfully and blessedly employed but I am unfilled in my current position. I know that there is so much more that I could be offering and that I have to give so I will get a new job this year. It doesn't have to be within a new organization but it will be a position that offers exactly what I'm looking for in terms of stimulation. I will maintain and grow my relationship with my husband. My husband retires from the NAVY in July after 20 years of service and we will get on our way to the desired level that I want to in our relationship....we will make strides to get there...and I will exercise faith, wisdom and patience! I will lose weight this year! My goal is 50 pounds and I will reach that goal and not slack off once I lose 30 pounds like I do every year thinking that I'm just to hot to touch!!! LOL I will be a better friend. I will forgive more often this year! I will be the best mother that my boys know! I will continue to work with my mentor on developing me and addressing areas of opportunity. And most importantly I will strengthen my relationship with God....if it means praying more instead of speaking, going to Church more often, being a better friend, mother or spouse I will strengthen that relationship and have faith. I will stop worrying so much!

Here are some weight loss tips I would like to share with you from YOUNGEVITY

1. Balance Eating with Some Movement.
When you're active, you burn more calories than when you are sedentary. Thirty minutes of TV watching burns 30 calories. 30 minutes of stair climbing burns 440 calories.

2. Don't Crash... Cruise
Attempting to crash diet will never offer long range results. Take time to change old habits. Eat a well balanced diet; one that can be maintained over time. The key is smaller portion size without sacrificing your favorite foods. Make up your mind never to finish a plate of food!

3. Make Short Term Goals for Yourself and then create a fun reward.
Don't think about results that may be possible a year from now. Rather, set weekly goals. Losing 1-2 pounds a week is a healthy way to plan for long term weight maintenance. Then, plan a fun hour or two doing something good for you as a reward. Try a visit to spa, a new haircut, or quiet time at the library to catch up on favorite magazines.

4. Eat Fresh vs. Preserved.

Fresh foods contain the optimum amount of nutritional value. With good nutrition you gain the positive effects of vitamins, minerals, fiber, fats, protein, water, etc... Do something good for yourself- the more you eat fresh, the more you'll appreciate it over processed and preserved.

5. Put in All in Perspective.
Don't think "die it". Think about balanced, healthy, meals that you can enjoy. Think about it as a progressive lifestyle change. The kind of change that brings real, long term benefits to YOU! Begin treating your body with respect and learn to cherish good health!

Happy New Year!

I am trying to start and stay with my resolve to get back on my fitness program. I am a coach (even though inactive for the past two to three months); however I have been sporatically exercising via my online fitness club. I would love to have my friends here join me at the club. Please visit... http://www.beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/sjsmith

A big plus offered through this club is the incentives given to those who come and sign up daily to exercise -- from money to electronics.

I would love for you all to join me and help each other become win as "losers" in the 2009 weight loss campaign.

It's a new year, but I'm continuing with some practices I've started already. I intend on making a life change, for me and my family.

First: Creating a more personal relationship with the Lord. Helping and praying for my family. Creating an atmosphere of worship, praise and love in my home.

Second: Making better financial choices that will benefit my family better. I intend on saving more and spending wisely on necessities.

Third: Becoming healthier. My family and I need to eat better, so I intent on cutting down on unhealthy snacks and fast foods. I want to create an exercise program that fits me. Not something that I'll struggle with and will then quit, but light and easy. I want the kids to get out more to run and play, instead of video games and movies.

Fourth: Nurture my marriage. My husband is the most important man here on earth to me. I want to make sure he knows that. I want to ensure our relationship still has the love it had when we first met and that takes work. So, I vow to love honor and respect my husband, because sometimes life makes you forget that.

Fifth: Building my home. Organizing, creating comfort, cleaning, and decluttering. My home will be a place away from the worries of the world for me and my family. It will continue to be our refuge and safe haven. I want my family to come home to nice clean surrounding and a smile. A place for everything and everything in it's place.

Pray for my family, while I continue on my quest for the new year and may God bless us on our journey.
