Breastfeeding acts like a natural barrier against fertility because it creates more intense contractions to shrink your uterus after you have a baby and it helps stop bleeding. When I breastfed immediately after having a baby and didn’t take any hormonal birth control like depo, my bleeding lasted about week. But when I took depo after having a baby, it lasted about 6 weeks. When you take depo, it counteracts the bleeding that breastfeeding is already trying to take care of, and it makes you bleed longer. Depo itself is a hormone and working on the hormones that are released when you breastfeed. They may be counteracting each other.

I would have suggested that you not take the depo immediately having a baby. My doctor gave it to me too when my baby was about 2 days old but the insert that comes with depo says you should wait at least six weeks.

Hello, I am new to this site. I am a mom of 3 children and I have breastfed my other two children until they were two. I am currently breastfeeding my son he is 16 months and 3 weeks. He is a little more demanding than his sisters. I will contiue to breastfeed him probably until he is 2 as well. It seems that when they are bresastfed, they are rarely sick and they do not have as many ear infections. You don't have to worry about getting up in the middle of the night and making a bottle. You can just nurse your baby and still get sleep.

My first breastfed for 10 months. I believe she would'e went longer had I not given her formula from 5 months on. My 2nd has been exclusively breastfed since day one. We are still going strong at 24 months.

Hi Everyone. I am due to have my daughter at the end of August. I breastfed my son until he was a year. With her I would like to go longer. I joined this group for support. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Hello All! I have a 1 yr old girl that I have exclusively breastfed, however I'm so over pumping at work but don't want to give our nursing relationship. I'm starting the weaning process now, but I will still breastfeed on evenings and weekends :)
