Hello,
Please continue to take one day at a time. Learning to control your finances is a very difficult thing. I was in terrible shape about 9 to 10 years ago. Maybe my strategies can help you. I did 3 things. First, I Prayed and asked the Lord that if he got me out of my financial mess I wouldn't get back in. Then for financial education, I started watching the Suze Orman show and reading her books. In addition, I also follow Michelle Singletary and sometimes Dave Ramsey. These people are awsome. Just hang in there and don't give up.

Hello Bran and thanks for you comment. I agree with you on some things you mentioned. As far as the b/f that's done. As far as my daughter's schooling I am always involved in meetings and everything. The thing that that is holding somethings back is transportation which I am trying to get back on my feet. I have chosen to complete school online instead of traditional and plan to go further. I have had my daughter in karate and she did not want to do it no more I have thought about ROTC but won't that be too much for her ?

lol. I started out saving $5.00 every paycheck and increased the amount when I could. Something is always better than nothing.

Don't be afraid to invest. Invest and forget about it. It doesn't cost a lot now days to do so. I was afriad at first also. I was in fixed for years but know I'm more aggressive and I enjoy seeing my balance going up and down. But you have to get to that point. Start slow and low for know.

Hey Bran

So what are some of the things you are doing to try and control your finances?

I'm on Dave Ramsey 7 Baby steps.

1. $1,000 to start an Emergency Fund
2 Pay off all debt using the Debt Snowball
3 Three to six months of expenses in savings
4 Invest 15 percent of household income into Roth IRAs and pre-tax retirement
5 College funding for children
6 Pay off home early
7 Build wealth and give!
Invest in mutual funds and real estate

I have been on his plan for about a year and it really has change how I look and think about money. I have taken his Financial Peace University at my church and it really made a differents I paid $100 for the kit but you don't have to I invited my friend and she came for free. One you find a church or community center that is doing the class they will give you a code and with that code you will get all the paperwork you will need for the class so it will be no need for you to pay.
Look it up at this site: http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/

Doing a budget is the big and not shopping compusively is the big things I had to work on. If I can help in any way please let me know. You can do it.

Dave Ramsey might not be for you if not We can look else where. to find a program or book etc that will work for you and your finances.

I also read his book and suze orman book and he has a downloadable or
cd

Dave Ramsey's Personal Finance Software
Build your monthly cash flow plan, calculate how quickly you can roll through your debt snowball, determine monthly savings needed for retirement, plan for annual expenses, and balance your checkbook with the Personal Finance Software.

Good Luck.
