Turn on the television on any given day and you will hear a story about the fleeting middle class. Every election year, politicians say and do all they can to espouse their support for the American middle class.

Until a few years ago, I thought the desire to sustain the middle class was misplaced. After all, there are so many poor people, I couldn't figure out why there wasn't more emphasis on helping them. O
