Getting Educated at the Family Meeting

So.... we had a family meeting this week, and after I had my say, I asked the boys if there was anything good or bad that they wanted to share.

So my youngest (he's 7) shared that he had an awesome day at school, and told about his friends and the fun they had. Then he proceeded to say "oh yeah, I have something for the family meeting".

"I think we need a dad, a real dad".

So I asked about their biological father (whom they visit when we go back to my hometown… Continue

Its time for a Change....So what are you going to do?

Okay moms, we celebrated, were elated, we are walking on Cloud 9. But as President Elect Obama explained, we must be the change we seek in the world.

What are you doing in your home, community, personal life, career, world?

How are you working for change?

Will you do anything differently?

Do you feel different?

How does having a Black President CHANGE things for you?

Become a FastGirl!

FastGirls is collective of women who have chosen to practice the sacred and beneficial art of fasting in an effort to heal their body, mind and spirit.

Fasting has its roots in nearly every religious tradition from Christianity and Islam to Judaism and wisdom traditions of the East. The practice can be found in history as early as 7000 B.C. and most recently in modern houses of worship and even hospitals around the world.

Fasting is an experiential process that teaches us how to be with the difficult. Fasting is difficult to start and difficult to continue. But its regular practice allows us stand in the face of inevitable challenges and experience our own ability to overcome.

If you would like to share in a community of women abstaining for the health of their mind, body and spirit, join us.

Thank you Nicholle, I would love it. Call in at the designated time, and you will be live on the air with me. Later tonight, (or morning) I will email you a list of common stereotypes and myths that mothers are faced with while raising children. Whatever strikes a cord, you can discuss WHY it is not true. You can also bring up some common misconceptions that you experienced.

Hey Nicolle, I have that book and some of what is incorporated in the FastGirls practice comes from there. She is an amazing woman with a wealth of information to share. Every Black woman should own that title. We look forward to having you and maybe sharing some of your experiences with the group.

Thanks for the add!

Stepmoms are wicked.
Divorced moms should have stayed married.
Single moms are not fully qualified to raise academically succesful children.
Stepfathers don't bond with stepkids.
Single fathers have high incomes.
Teenage moms are lazy.
Stay at home moms are a throwback to the 50's.
Married mothers are better parents than single mothers.
Grandmas have the most patience of all when it's time to raise the grandkids.
...and plenty more more myths to SLAM on tonight's BTR show,
