What I love/hate about my "hubby" is the fact that he is very affectionate. It's okay when things are cool with us, but after a strong disagreement or I'm in one of my leave me alone moods, he still wants to be affectionate. If I'm upset with him, h…

The thing I wanted most in life
turned out to be a great big lie
it tricked me with its promises
now I don't have the will to live
this thing that's supposed to be filled with joy
even made me give birth to a little boy
it's sort of like an addicting drug
its hold on me I cannot shrug
it makes you go through hurt and pain
your mind's screwed up, you've gone insane
you know you should go, but it makes you stay

If It Don't Fit...

When I was a child, I remember one of my favorite songs was, If It Don’t Fit, Don’t Force It, by Kellee Patterson. That song came out in 1978 and I could not have known what they were talking about at such an early age because if I had, years later, I would not have stayed in my marriage as long as I had. Actually, I don’t even know if I would have gotten married at all to the man that fathered my three boys. I mean really, in the three years before we even tied the knot, I had gone through an o… Continue

The Power of Positive Thinking

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. I know I can, I know I can, I know I can. Yes, I can, yes I can, yes I can. Sounds good don’t it? Well I’ve been thinking these and saying these positive chants forever and guess what, no I haven’t, no I can’t, no I didn’t. Not if it was dependent on others. I hope I’m not coming off sounding like a bitter Betty because I’m not. I’m just stressing the fact that despite all of my efforts and self encouragement, I still haven’t.

Yeah, I’ve made some sm… Continue

I Have a Dream

As Election Day crawls forward and the strong possibility of America’s first African American president is almost a reality, I can just imagine Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saying to himself, “now that’s what I’m talking about.” In these here United States, why hasn’t there ever been a person of color leading a nation as multi-colored as we are? I mean, really, think about it, is the Caucasian race the only race that can lead? Why haven’t more people of color even tried to run, was it because the… Continue

I appreciate you making an effort to answer my questions. You said you wrote a book, where is it placed and what is the subject matter ? Yeah sis gotta keep it ole school, just like anything else we journey far from our roots and we without a doubt end up lost. Its always good to branch out and travel down a new road but when we loose our foundation, well, proof is in the puddin..... Do you have blogs which you write on other sites ? I enjoy getting different perspectives on life, relationships, etc..... If you do let me know I'd like to read them.

Hi Trisha!
Deadbeat Grandmas was my first atempt to talk about this issue. It was a good conversation. There's alot I will like to cover on this in the future. This Saturday night we will share resources on how to get started in a microbusiness from scratch, with very little capital, to generate income. If you have any resources, advice, or inspiration to share, please call in. Talk to you soon.
Let's turn that child support $ into a lucrative business! From chicken scratch to making ends meet.

Hi, my name is Tracy and I am a member of the Black Mom’s Club. I am doing my dissertation on parenting stress and social support among African American mothers. I am inviting you to participate. This is an important study because there’s a lack of studies about our parenting issues and experiences.

To participate you must have a biological child between age of 5-9, married (first time) or single (not divorced or separated) and US Citizen. If husband/mate in the home, he must be biological father of at least one of your children.

Please take a few minutes and complete the entire survey. For completing the survey, you can enter a drawing for a chance to win a $100 Target gift card.

Thanks for your help and support.
