I haven't been on this site in a while and missed a comment you left about talking to black boys about life lessons. I've recently published my book, 17 to Life: A Black Boy Memoir ( On Becoming a Human... Being in America). The book addresses wha...
My mom and I never talked when I was younger. She rarely knew what was going on in my head. I think a lot of black moms with teenage boys go through similar circumstances. I'd like to share what I was thinking and going through to open up dialogue between moms and sons out there.
How did you find the black moms club?

How many children do you have?

About Me:
oronde ash is the author of 17 to Life: A Black Boy Memoir (On Becoming a Human...Being in America), a dense detail of American life from childhood to young adulthood --a coming of age and being of-the-ages story of knowing, feeling and engaging the world, all the while sensing its inefficacy and the pitfalls of its promise. These are the contradictions with which we live and learn in times of plenty and in these days of sacrifice and economic hardship.
Told through anecdotes and poignant accounts of his years in the suburb, his family’s move to New York City, life on food stamps, in roach and rat infested apartments, family dysfunction, struggles through school, adolescent fear, confusion, angst and doubt, 17 to Life takes the reader from loneliness, isolation and the coolness of first encounters, to understanding, acceptance and the resolve to adapt and change one’s situation to manifest a destiny.
Reviewer Diepiriye Kuku of Litgriot.com writes, “Conceivably, it is these experiences of new Americans that teach us old ones the most about where we stand despite, and in spite of the grand values espoused in our rhetoric.”
Hi bygINCpesents, Congrats on your book, "A Black Boy Memoir". This is so satisfying and energizing to know that a young man is willing to reach out and assist our young boys who may be suffering! I will check out your video. Keep on inspiring, motivating, and directing our boys who taste nothing but despair! Marie
"It’s Crunch Time!”, This is a new children’s book by Marie Brewer (www.helenbrewer.com for the link to book) This is my book of muscle for boys (ages 9-12) to point them in the direction of HOPE!...This is an interactive book where they can write about their feelings. It discusses acceptable behavior, honesty, good self-image, respect for females and animals, appreciation for teachers/school, choosing good friends. The book also talks about resisting gangs, guns, drugs, violence, alcohol and bad influences. Let's attack the behavior, not the boy. "It's Crunch Time!" , by Marie Brewer, www.bbotw.com. Be a part of the village to help our boys envision their true God-given purpose!
We can turn this thing around! SEE! THINK ! ACT!
Heaven gives us hope! Marie Brew
Hey byginc, Your videos were insightful. Sometimes I look at my son and wonder what in the world is he thinking? What is he going through? How do I talk to him? Looking forward to discussions, of course I have a million conversations with plenty of questions. BTW the video for your wifey was ADORABLE!!!! Loved it. Very creative.
I know you are all about mothers and sons having positive relationships. I recently started a Saturday School Program for my sons, and would like to add a character development component. Sort of like Life Lessons, or things they absolutely need to know before they go out into the world. Would you be willing to collaborate on developing this with me? They are 7 and 9, so I wont be dealing with any "heavy" stuff yet, but I could use a male perspective. Let me know what you think ok?
Thanks Nicholle
I did not see any links for your wife's pages. If you post them,I'll be sure to comment.
