Lizz Wright's 'Hey Mann': A Beautiful Sadness

Thursday morning, I dropped in to Starbucks for a soy chai and walked out with Lizz Wright's latest album, The Orchard. I was delighted to find that she remade Sweet Honey in the Rock's Hey Mann. Her voice complicates my soul. On the one hand the husky, sorrowful sound with a hint of longing...aching, is unbearable; but the sound is… Continue

Washington, DC Area "Home Delivery" Movie Showings

"Most women in the modern world never think twice about the decision to give birth in a hospital. Like their mothers and grandmothers before them, they imagine a time when they'll pack their bags, call their doctors and rush to the fluorescent lights and sterile sheets of their baby's first home. But in a time when C-Sections are inexplicably on the rise, health costs are skyrocketing, and personal care is hard to find, some women are…

How Do I Do It?

I am asked this question at least 4 times per week. Each time I hear it, I am in aw. I wake up each morning prepared to "grind". I know that I have to keep going to make things happen.

I know that my babies depend on me because I have committed to being involved in their daily life. I committed to staying home and homeschooling. Yes, there are days when I second guess my… Continue

I Love this Black Moms Club Website, I'm new to it. Here's my 1st email to L. Henry. What do you think?

I love your website but I see something missing and detrimental to parenting.

PLEASE ADD ADVICE on how to include the non custodial father in a child's life. When and if this is possible, it should be encouraged.

I see you do include low income resources for single moms, but in most states these resources are being phased out and replaced with MANDATORY CHILD SUPPORT FILINGS or no state support will be eligible. And now the maximum income allowed in IL is $1,000 or less…

Teaching Your Toddler To Sign

Moms find out how teaching your toddlers to sign can benefit them. Not only does it help you to communicate with them while they are learning to speak but kids who learn to sign at an early age are smarter. Not only do they score higher on test but have higher IQs. Check out the YouTube video below and see one mom's success story.

Single Parent/ Couple Chicago

I'm thinking of starting a single parenting group for single black parents. NOT just Moms, but Dads too. (The poweful single dad goes to easily unrecognized.)

I want the focus to be on the balance we must all work towards being responsible parents and youthful-minded, progressive fun people. I know there are more parents out there that want to further their careers, education and get out and enjoy life but feel as if this lifestyle is unobtainable as single parents. Then there are… Continue
