Manatha Young Leaving a Legacy for Our Children

Mothers, I have given great thought over the past several months of the legacy I wish to leave behind for my birth and spiritual daughters. It has truly been resting upon me heavily and with urgency that I must to get to work laying this foundation for them to build on. It’s true; one day we all have a divine appointment with our creator to vacate this earth. While we are here let’s make the best of our time and impart into the lives of our children all that is right, just, pure, and of good re… Continue

Ms. B Teaching Me About Pain!

Yesterday’s Sunday school lesson was about Jesus’ crucifixion and how we enjoy the life that we have because he died for our sins. Pain was also discussed as a vivid occurrence by saying that we all endure some type of pain before we experience joy! This statement started me to reflect upon the birth of my daughter. I went through a natural delivery, impacted by back labor which caused me to feel as if my back was breaking into many pieces. But at the exact moment my daughter was able to open h… Continue

Ms. B Deepest Fear!

As a single working mother, my deepest fears are that I am not devoting enough time to my child. Also, I worry that if something happens to me what would happen to her; will she have a solid foundation to survive and succeed without me? Reading the poem below and remembering a situation that happened with my daughter jolted me into action to stop fearing the unknown and try! Back in August I begin writing a children’s book with a companion book for parents. This book was about how I came to an… Continue

KimSyne Are Black Women Teaching Their Daughters to Be Mean?

My 4 year old son is attending school for the first time. His school is very diverse and apparently four year olds are very touchy feely little people. They just like to hug. Well, my baby is quite popular with the girls. We recently went to the Pumpkin Patch and one particular little girl was all over my baby. They were holding hands and hugging. She followed him everywhere he went. On the hay ride there was another little girl that was really upset and very vocal about it. He had not played w… Continue

Kiri Love Deadbeat Grandmas...let's end our silence about them: Grandmotherless Children

Deadbeat Grandmas: This show was an icebreaker show on the subject, that I'd like to revisit in the future. Thank you for listening and calling in. I'm sorry I didn't get to all the callers holding the line to share their input on air. Please call back for the future show. It turned out to be an emotional subject for me to talk about on air, absent of jokes. I absolutely was not in the mood to interview my mom on air, because it is an absolute emotional subject for her too, as with many graContinue
